Registered neighborhood groups are invited to participate in a new neighborhood revitalization program, Love Your Block, Cities of Service’s tested, high-impact service strategy, in which the mayor’s office engages community members in revitalizing their neighborhoods, one block at a time. Cities of Service provides funding for Tulsa’s Love Your Block program as part of a larger partnership with the City.
Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support revitalization projects that reduce blight in neighborhoods. Neighborhood groups must be registered with the city to be eligible, and representatives are invited to attend a Love Your Block application workshop on Nov. 7.
The Working in Neighborhoods Department will send workshop invitations to registered neighborhood groups by email and make an announcement in the bi-weekly e-newsletter. Applications are due Dec. 15 and awards will be announced on Jan. 23, 2018. Criteria for the awards will be provided upon request by contacting [email protected] or 918-596-1292.
Love Your Block is part of a larger initiative entitled Serve Tulsans, also funded through its partnership with Cities of Service. Serve Tulsans is an umbrella program that encompasses the Love Your Block mini-grants and a home weather and efficiency resilience program. The Home Resilience program will be operated in tandem with the City’s existing home rehabilitation program for low-income residents based on existing need and applications already received.
A Serve Tulsans volunteer registration website, subsidized by Cities of Service, will be launched in January. Volunteers will be matched to public and private projects and notified when a service project is in need of assistance. Volunteers will be connected to opportunities based on their availability, passion, and skills. The site will be used to track volunteer hours.
