Downtown Tulsa will come alive on Friday, September 20, as on-street parking spaces along Boston Avenue will be turned into vibrant urban parklets from 1 to 4 p.m. The Park(ing) Day event, organized by Downtown Tulsa Partnership (DTP), Urban Land Institute (ULI), and the City of Tulsa's Urban Design Studio, aims to demonstrate the potential for creating green, people-friendly spaces in urban environments.

Businesses and organizations will be setting up pop-up parks and public spaces in place of parking spots to encourage the community to rethink the use of public space. The event is part of the global Park(ing) Day initiative, which invites communities to reimagine metered parking spaces. This year's theme, "Parking Reform," will catalyze discussions on reshaping urban landscapes to prioritize people and creativity.

Emily Scott, Director of Planning & Economic Development for the Downtown Tulsa Partnership (DTP), expressed enthusiasm for Downtown Tulsa's participation in this international movement. "This event seeks to challenge conventional ideas about public spaces and transform parking spots into lively community areas that celebrate people and foster creativity," she stated.

The event will provide a platform for organizations to showcase their creativity and spark conversations about the future of public spaces in Downtown Tulsa. Participants can explore each pop-up installation and vote for their favorite activation by scanning QR codes posted at each participating parking stall.
