Tulsa’s Household Pollutant Collection Facility (HPCF) opened last January to offer Tulsa residents a place to dispose of household pollutants for free. The HPCF has now expanded its services to offer customers gently used or brand new items that are collected at the facility.
Titled Swap Shop, customers can shop free of charge from new or lightly used products collected at the HPCF. Swap Shop programs are common in many Household Pollutant Collection Facilities across the country as it allows products to be used for what it was manufactured for and saves municipalities on disposal costs.
Items that are frequently collected at the facility include: household cleaners, fertilizers, motor oil, pesticides, spray paint and windshield washer fluid.
Customers that wish to utilize the Swap Shop must make an appointment with the HPCF and dispose of at least one item. Up to five items from the Swap Shop can be taken free of charge and a customer agreement must be signed.
The HPCF is located at 4502 S. Galveston Ave. and is open every Wednesday and Saturday by appointment only from 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. To make an appointment, call (918) 591-4325.
To date, the facility has collected 97,535 pounds of household pollutants from 1,376 customers. M.e.t. members and residents throughout the region can also drop-off household pollutants at the HPCF for a fee. More than 98 residents outside of the Tulsa city limits have utilized the HPCF since late 2016.
