Night Court at the Tulsa Municipal Court is celebrating its first anniversary of service, marking a significant milestone in providing extended access to justice for the community.

Launched in September 2023, Night Court was established to better serve citizens with municipal citations by extending court hours until 7 p.m. on Thursday evenings. This initiative aimed to accommodate individuals with scheduling conflicts during regular court hours, and the impact has been remarkable.

Key statistics from the first year of Night Court include:

The Thursday Night Court program offers services to help citizens efficiently resolve citations, including a cashier's window open after 5 p.m. for citation payments, extended hours for compliance letters, and cost administration for payment plans.

With three separate dockets at 4, 5, and 6 p.m. and a Spanish interpreter available, Night Court has strived to accommodate diverse needs. Citizens can contact Tulsa Municipal Court to verify if their citation qualifies for Night Court and schedule a date if applicable.

Furthermore, individuals with correctible citations can email their documents to [email protected] and bring them on their scheduled court date, provided they have obtained prior approval for the appearance.

In addition to enhancing accessibility, Tulsa Municipal Court has prioritized attendees' safety and security. This includes improving the facility's outdoor lighting and offering free street parking after 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Reflecting on the success of Night Court's first year, Mayor G.T. Bynum said, "Night Court has been an essential addition to our city's services, providing a vital resource for our citizens. The impact of Night Court in extending services has been significant, and we are committed to its continued success."

Cheri Harvell, Court Administrator, also commented, "The first year of Night Court has demonstrated the dedication of Tulsa Municipal Court to serve our community effectively. We are proud of Night Court's positive impact on citizens facing scheduling conflicts, and we look forward to furthering our commitment to accessible justice."
