Two recently completed City of Tulsa concrete paving projects won gold and silver awards at the Annual Oklahoma American Concrete Pavement Association Conference held this week in Oklahoma City. The Engineering Services Department accepted the awards, both in the category of “Municipal Greater Than 30,000 Square Feet.”
Concrete reconstruction of neighborhood streets between North Memorial Drive and North 73rd East Avenue, from East Newton Street to East Independence Street won a Gold Award. These streets now have curb, gutter and concrete 6 inches thick. This project was part of the first Improve Our Tulsa capital improvement package.
The project to widen South Mingo Road from two lanes to five lanes between East 71st Street and East 81st Street and pave the mile with concrete won a Silver Award. Concrete on this road is 9 inches thick; this project also included storm sewers, sidewalks on both sides, and reconstructed driveways. This was a Vision Tulsa capital project.
“These awards recognize the high quality of concrete projects that pass inspection with our Engineering Services Department,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “Even through the challenges of the pandemic, work on these projects has continued to completion. We are accomplishing what the citizens of Tulsa wanted when they approved these infrastructure projects in Improve Our Tulsa and Vision Tulsa.”
Engineering Services personnel who collaborated on these projects include Field Engineering Manager Ryan McKaskle, Transportation Lead Engineer Doug Helt, Transportation Rehabilitation Manager Maranda Davis, and Project Manager Patty Parks, along with consultants and contractors: Poe & Associates, Benham, Crossland Heavy Contractors and APAC Central Inc.
